About Us
“I created Kangaroo Korner with a simple goal in mind – to attach mom and baby comfortably and securely. Over the years, it has been my goal to design babyslings that are simple to use, comfortable and versatile for all ages, have a short learning curve and facilitate breastfeeding. My ultimate goal is to match mom, dad or caregiver and baby up with a sling that is best for them in order to promote attachment parenting. As most of the babyslings available through mass markets (Wal-Mart, Target, Babies R Us, etc) are extremely poor quality, we have focused on developing high quality babyslings that are easy to use and appeal not only to beginning babywearers and new parents, but also to experienced babywearers.”~ Tanya Westerman, Owner and Founder of Kangaroo Korner, Inc.
When our oldest child was 3 months old, I bought my 1st sling. I was currently friends with a mom who had been babywearing since the birth of her 1st child, who was only a few weeks older than my daughter. I was intrigued by this contraption she wore him in, but I was also quite skeptical as I had never seen something like it before. Our daughter was a very spirited child who demanded a lot of attention from her parents. My friend was convinced a sling would help ease the difficult time we were having as new parents. To prove her point, during a moment of intense crying, my friend picked up my daughter and popped her into her sling. She immediately stopped crying and instantly became alert. I was in shock. I was in awe. I needed one of these. Immediately.
I visited the local breastfeeding center at the hospital I had given birth in. They only sold one style of sling, a NOJO, and I bought it. Local stores did not yet carry slings and the Internet had hardly been born. While the sling I purchased lacked in many ways, it definitely helped us bond more quickly with our spirited daughter. In fact, one special night will forever be imprinted in my memory as a pivotal turning point in our lives as parents. My husband would take our daughter for a nightly walk to help her calm before bed. During one of these
nocturnal walks, they took a stroll from our apartment to the local bookstore where my husband purchased The Baby Book by Dr. William Sears for me. Dr. Sears is a well-known pediatrician who specializes in Attachment Parenting along with its theory of bonding, breastfeeding, babywearing, co-sleeping and positive discipline. I voraciously read this book cover to cover, only to re-read sections of it over and over again.
Kangaroo Korner, Inc. began less than a year after this pivotal turning point in our lives. By then, I had “upgraded” my sling to an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder or OTSBH (purchased for $10 at a child’s used clothing store) and had decided that every family needed easy access to high quality slings. Kangaroo Korner, Inc. was born in our small 800 square foot home in 1997. We began our company as a distributor for OTSBH.
In May, 1998, we opened our online retail store and quickly evolved into one of the Internet’s leading stores to shop for a variety of high-quality slings.
In 1999, we introduced our own Kangaroo Korner brand, highlighting our Adjustable Fleece Pouch. Since 1999, our Adjustable Pouches have been our #1 seller, accounting for more than 90% of our yearly total sales.
As our family grew to 3 children and as the business grew, it became time to move. In 2003, we moved into our new 2400 square foot home - the business lived on one floor while we lived on the other floor. When our family grew to 4 children and as the business continued to thrive, we decided in the fall of 2005 that it was time to move the business out of our home. It was sadly time for me to give up my WAHM (work-at-home-mom) status. In September, 2005, we moved into a 2000 square foot office space where we currently complete manufacturing on most of our slings, handle customer service, distribution, shipping and receiving.
Looking at our prices, you may wonder why we don’t manufacture our slings in

Every day, the Kangaroo Korner team is looking for new ways to improve our products and to create new products for today’s needs. Our customers are very important to us so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
